This is so cool! I read an article about this a year or so ago and thought it was a neat idea, but I didn’t think it would ever actually happen. But now I see where it is well on it’s way and is scheduled for completion later this year. The Bosco Verticale — a new superstructure designed to bring the forest to Milan, Italy will be the world’s first fully forested Skyscraper.
Amazingly, they claim that the construction of the towers cost just five percent more than an average skyscraper. It will be very interesting to see what we learn from this experiment. If they can make it work it could change everything when it comes to living in the city.
I wonder, though, how will they deal with falling branches from 20 stores up during a windstorm? I’m guessing someone thought of that, but I’m just saying. Nevertheless, I applaud the designers and hope it helps us find a way to bring nature back to our cities.
